How Can I Help?

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer! Give the gift of your time and talents at SHEM. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, learn skills and have fun while making a difference. Volunteers are vital to the work we do.

We have a need for community partners who can offer prayer support, shelf stocking and food re-packaging skills, interfacing with clients, clerical tasks, as well as financial supporters, who keep the lights on and the freezers going. If you have special talents in fundraising or grant proposal writing, we can help you find the perfect niche to serve in within our organization! We have a special need for help with building upkeep and maintenance.

Bring yourself, bring your family, or bring a few close friends to volunteer and get involved! We welcome school and civic organizations volunteers. Contact our Administrative Director at 541-367-6504 or by email at: shemfoodbank@gmail.com for details on how you can help make a direct impact in the fight against hunger in our community!

I Want to Volunteer... Now What??????

We have set aside a specific time to greet new volunteers. Each Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 8:15 am has been reserved to greet and orient new volunteers at SHEM. Volunteer application and guideline agreements are available for completion during orientation at 8:00 am. Come on in and make a big difference in Sweet Home! PLEASE CALL DURING OPEN HOURS TO SCHEDULE YOUR PERSONAL ORIENTATION.

Financial Support

SHEM operates within a very modest budget and meets hunger needs in our community through federal grants and government programs, as well as private donations from local supporting businesses and community members.

Your continued financial contributions ensure that the mission of SHEM is carried out, reaching thousands of our Sweet Home neighbors over the last 42 years, seeing them through difficult times of economic crisis and food insecurity.

Thank you for placing your trust in SHEM in helping to meet the needs of the hungry and families in crisis in our community.

Prayer Support

Our organization is a Christian and faith-based ministry, with volunteers and supporters representing a wide diversity of denominations from the community. SHEM strives to provide a welcoming, friendly, non-threatening environment that maintains the dignity of each client seeking assistance.

The ongoing work at SHEM is at times difficult and stressful, so prayers for encouragement and strength are coveted. We especially thank you for your faithfulness in prayer for SHEM and the neighbors we serve.

Donations of Food, Non-Perishable Items and Other Food Stuffs

Whether you donate food, non-perishable items, or other necessities to the SHEM food bank, you make a direct positive impact on the lives of children and adults in our community. All donations stay in our community to benefit our neighbors and friends who live and work here.
